Þetta hafa allir sem vilja lengi vitað. Leitarvélarnar tengja saman leitarorð og valdar niðurstöður við IP-tölu tölvunnar þinnar (fingrafars tölvunnar) og geyma. Síðan eru auglýsendum seldur aðgangur að markhópum völdum á grundvelli langana sinna. Flest stóru netfyrirtækin gera þetta raunar líka (t.d. Amazon). Af hverju segirðu það Birgir? Vissulega reyna stórfyrirtæki að koma böndum á sem flesta sjálfum sér og hagsmunum sínum í hag.  Ekkert nýtt undir sólinni þar.  Það sem gæti þurft að breytast er að við - fólkið - þurfum að fara að velta vöngum yfir hvaða fyrirtæki við viljum styðja með peningunum okkar.  Byrjunin þarf ekki að vera flóknari en að hætta að nota Google.  Svo eru til fjölmörg fleir skref sem hægt er að taka.  Tók t.d. eftir því að Píratar voru að velta þessu fyrir sér í síðustu kosningum.  Við það að við tökum saman höndum getur þetta aðeins batnað.
